We had near perfect weather for our 2nd outdoor practice of the year. The players worked through some great drills as everyone continues to tune up their early season skills. Shoutout to Aussie legend @jessemirco29 for showing his support for the game, and sharing a bit of his own footy wisdom for some of the newer blokes — like how to absolutely crush a torpedo with Coach@jsmith_37 — these Aussies turned gridiron punters are a unique breed and in a total class of their own. Spring trainings have sprung. Join us Thursdays, 6-8p at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. You'll find us on the left/East as you approach the fields from the parking lots to the North. On July 19th, Columbus hosted their inaugural alumni game (a metro game for active players and hopefully an annual event going forward). The event was scheduled after the club received strong interest from their alumni survey earlier this year. The old timers dusted off the club’s original Jackaroos jumpers as long-time head coach John Fisher returned to coach the alumni. Alec Dooley coached the Cats, while 2025 club coach Andrew “Fab” Sobol handled umpiring duties. The Jacks got out to an early lead at the first quarter break (going downhill probably helped), and the veterans were right there at half-time, down only 2 points. The Cats’ fitness and sharper skills took over in the 2nd half as the young guns pulled away for a respectable 16 point win. It was great to see alumni Anish, Santosh, Jordan, and Evan lace them up, while besties Bernie & Chet battled as teammates again. Over 40 silver foxes Justin, Reisiger and Dean donned the throwback red jumpers to compete alongside their old Jackaroos teammates as Jackhammer and Matt P. also joined the footy festival. After the game, everyone joined arm-in-arm to sing the club fight song as the mateship between the club’s past and present was being visibly bridged. Jordan Edmonds would take Best on Ground for the Alumni as the boys all earned their beers at Byrne’s for the post-game social. Three cheers all around the ground and the club — Hip-Hip-HOORAY(x3)!!!
